Bears Necessity: Cal-MSU Quick Reactions

Can you really say the Cal D was great when they give up 31 points? Look, there's a difference between rush defense and pass defense. Cal did OK/GOOD when it comes to rush defense, as you pointed out.

Cal DID NOT DO GOOD when it comes to pass defense, giving up a ton of yards, including over 200 to Dell.

The 3-4 worked OK for the run, but Cal needs to have a better pass defense or they won't go far this season.

Saying Cal D was great when they give up 31 points is laughable.

Okay. 7 of those points came off a pick six by Wiley. Another 7 points were a result of a short field from a long-snapper mishap. Another 7 points were the result of a dubious special teams personal foul, that gave the Spartans a first down deep inside California territory.

So the special teams were responsible for 14 points and the offense for 7 more. The Cal D gave up 10. Still think it was a terrible effort?

321 yards in the air for team that is all about the run. Good luck against Arizona State and USC.

321 yards on 48 attempts--only around 6.7 yards per attempt. And only 20 of 48 for a 42 percent completion rate. Many of those grabs were just astonishing plays between Hoyer and his receivers, since Hoyer was fading away with every throw he made to avoid the Cal pass rush. I'm fairly comfortable with our D's performance.

Let me say something else. Your comments on Longshore are ridiculous.

I also think Longshore played super lax on purpose, kind of throwing those interceptions on purpose. He is obviously not going to the NFL, and he probably just wants to chill this fall. He doesn't want the pressure and other shit.

That might be the funniest thing I've read all week.

What better way to "chill this fall" then practicing in an open competition for the starting QB job, and then getting booed on his way off the field. How perceptive of you.

Far be it from me to claim to be inside Longshore's head, but I think it's safe to assume that winning back the starting QB job at Cal is the most important thing in the world to him.

I think Anger may have more pure power in his punting than Nick Harris, but Harris was much better about his directional punting. The guy was amazing at pinning a team inside their 10, or even their 5, even from a short field, and putting it in the corner to boot. Anger may get there, but right now, I'll take his 70 yard bombs and like 'em.
