Bears Necessity: California-Oregon Report Card

Generally agree with your assessment of the Bears play on Saturday, though I think you are underselling the effectiveness of the pass rush. Masoli is far more elusive than Sanchez in the pocket and had the added benefit of being soaking wet. Watching the game, to me, it appeared we were penetrating the line up front, but that he was generally evading the first tackle, or even two, before being brought down. On a dry field, I don't think that happens, even with a larger player in Sanchez.

The rushing game was definitely an issue I agree, but I think just as importantly as the make-shift line up front was Oregon's continued stacking the box. Ward playing like a madman down low was a big factor in stopping the rush game. If Longshore can keep SC honest with an effective passing attack, Cal should hopefully be able to generate some running room. Unfortunately, you've got Taylor Mays hanging out at safety for SC.
