Bears Necessity: Can Jeff Tedford Keep Cal Football’s Window Open?

Letting Dunbar leave was a huge mistake!
The sad fact is Tedford is the best coach Cal has had since I have been alive (I am 36).
Cal is starting to remind me of the Raiders a little bit by asking players to do things they are physically and/or mentally incapable of doing.
It will not be long before Cal will be forced to run the spread just to be competitive as blue chip recruits jump to PAC-10 programs on the rise. Tedford hit his high point when he had Dunbar and Marshawn Lynch.

We'll have to see. Tedford is still a fairly young coach, so I think he's
capable of adapting to the situation and returning the Bears to a strong
position in the conference. It could happen this season, depending on how
    quick he is to adjust.

What a great post. I follow Cal football closely, but had never read that analysis of the improvement in coaching across the league. Of course, Willingham and WSU are pathetic, but otherwise the teams are competitive. There is one thing I dislike more than losing, and that is losing predictably. I would rather see Cal play exciting higher risk football than boring plodding play calling. A hallmark of earlier Tedford teams was that they were fun to watch, with bold plays and nicely creative play calling. Our losses this year have seem to come from running the ball right up the middle to nowhere, running to the side for no gain, and passing the ball 6 yards for a completion or interception. I haven't lost faith, I'm just getting bored at times.

We're going to have to see. Often Cal installs an offense to best suit their quarterback, and it's clear what is in place right now suits quarterbacks like Longshore and Riley. They are not in the same class as Tedford's old proteges.

I'm not about to throw Tedford under the bus, because the Bears are always opposite the most dominant franchise in Pac-10 history, but the wait can be grating.
