The Bears Are Roaring (Leftovers from Cal-Tennessee)

Started by Avinash · 10 months ago

So I said I’d write up some analytical thoughts…but the Cal football blogosphere seems to already be a thousand steps ahead of me. It makes my job easier to focus on the mundane and the sublime, and turn over the analysis to them. Here are my remaining thoughts, mostly ... Continue reading »

  • the girl was by far the worst mic MAN of all time. Her voice was terrible. And she kept leading cheers while we were in the huddle. Everyone around me was only excited by her in the sense they were yelling obscenities at her.
  • Ah, I heard a lot of noise during her stint. I guess it was just the wrong kind of noise.
  • yea the girl was micman was extremely bad...most people ignored her or were skeptical.

I also have to disagree with Jason Snell's opinion. Ainge was certainly doing 'Jeff Garcia' style passes...dinking and dunking, but. He had 171 yards 2 TDs and just 2 incompletions in the entire half. If not for Follet's bone-crunching hit, I was fairly confident that the Vols were going to score easily on that opening drive.
  • Although the football team has put its mark on the national scene, Cal football fans and students have a long ways to go. http://thepowert.blogspot.com/2007/08/cal-has-g...

The mic-men/women were horrible; screaming into the MIC while not paying attention to the game.

Artificial noise and music blared over the PA.

Alumni still unable to get off their assess.

Students showing indifference during the game http://goldenblogs.blogsome.com/2007/09/02/hydr...
  • To be fair, that was after Tennessee shellacked us to high heaven. The real fans were all in a daze. But yeah, we're still growing into this. No rich history of football to be found.

Ainge was great until the 4th quarter, when I think either the pinky ran out of steam, the defense tightened, or the strange playcalling caught up with Tennessee.
  • @corsair, I don't know where you were, but in the heart of alumni territory I can tell you that the Tennessee game was the loudest I've ever heard the section for an entire game and we stood for the most I've ever seen as well. So there's serious improvement on that score.
  • In other words, we're not Lakers fans. Awesome.

We still have a long way to go to catch up with the cream of the crop in the Pac-10 (namely, UCLA and Oregon fans). We'll be better at midseason, but I don't think we'll get really loud until we face the Trojans. I'd rate this as the third loudest game I've been to, outside of Oregon and UCLA last year.
  • First off, I do like your blog, but just one thing. The Mic Men are separate from Rally Comm...they are completely unrelated to each other. Mic Men are in charge of pumping the crowd up and Rally Comm does card stunts, flags, cannons, bon fires, etc. So, before you bash an organization, be sure you know who you're talking about.
  • Point noted. Thanks.
