If only Texas would oblige you and lose five of their next six. But until they fall out, they have to stay right where they are.

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

Texas should slither out of the top 25. That SNAKE Mac Brown screwed Cal out of a Rose Bowl appearance a few years ago with his back door politics. As you recall we were ahead of Texas, won our final game on the road and mysteriously dropped in the polls. I will always hate that sneaky bastard for sneaky antics.

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

Texas and thar SNAKE of a coach should slither out of the top twenty five. He screwed CAL out of a Rose Bowl appearance a few years ago by his sneaky political campaigning. As everyone recalls we were ahead of Texas with one week to go. We WON our game in Louisiana and mysteriously dropped behind Texas. I hate that bastard Brown to this day

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

In context these wins seem bigger, because of when and where they played them (Michigan in the Big House to open the season, even if they stink now; Air Force at Air Force, and Oregon State after they upset the #1 team and playing completely on adrenaline, especially considering Utah was playing on four days rest).

Heh, anyway, it sounds better the way I say it.

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

I agree with everything you say, but I'm not terribly high on Michigan State either (the Big Ten is very weak this year). My opinion of both teams will jump if they can win this weak. Right now there are too many flaws with both of them to rank them in the top 15.

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

Hmm...not sure I agree with you on Utah. Don't get me wrong, I think they're a solid team. Definitely top 15 at this point.

However, their win over Michigan is looking less and less impressive with each Wolverine Loss, Air Force will most likely end up in the middle of the Mountain West pecking order this year, and their comeback over Oregon St. was impressive, but the keyword is "comeback." And while Oregon State is better than their record indicates, they're still an unranked team.

I can't fully agree with your statement that wins over 3 unranked teams with a combined 9-9 record results in 3 quality wins. Decent, but not quite quality.

Re: Week 7 Preliminary Blogpoll: Mid-Major Discrimination

Can't say I agree with your negativity towards Cal. Sure, Cal hasn't done much in the last few weeks, but some of their competition has. Every week the win vs. Michigan St. looks better, and Maryland has at least shown it can play well and beat good teams on any given week (even if they can also lose to bad teams on any given week). Keep in mind the Sagarin computer rankings have Cal at #15, one spot ahead of Michigan St. Also, though Cal only beat Michigan St. by 7, once they scored the first TD with 7:32 left in the first quarter, Cal lead for every second of the rest of the game, so it's fair to say they controlled the game even if it was close in the end. I think Cal would have won it in East Lansing - other than the two terrible Longshore INT's, Cal was the better team. Wow, I did not mean to write a comment this long....
